Storyline

An uptown girl, caught in the quagmires of modern times, was entangled at her own apartment. She became the tools of a game of Power. Choked and soaked, Suvashree, set to be liberated from the power hounds.

Synopsis

In the relentless heat of modern urban life, Shubhashree, an educated and conscious citizen, finds herself trapped within her own home. Despite the constant warnings and signs of everyday life, she struggles to keep breathing, guided by the ideals of Buddha. She finds solace in books, especially those that reflect the tensions of society and politics. One night, after reading a book by Dr. Humayun Azad, she drifts into sleep, only to awaken in a strange dream shaped by the grasp of political powers over the world. Within her home, she experiences the exercise of dominance by global powers-sometimes becoming part of them, at other times seeking to purify and resist them. Shubhashree searches for a path to freedom, navigating the relentless pull of these forces, embodying the tension between individual will and the overwhelming structures of power.

Director’s Note

Since the dawn of civilization, as humans organized into groups and staked their claims over territories, the obsession with domination has been intrinsic to human nature. This drive for supremacy gave birth to the creation of adversaries, the construction of boundaries, and the politics of aggression. Over time, this obsession intensified, manifesting in tools of war-from cannons to nuclear weapons—and violent conflicts such as the World Wars. Ordinary lives, peaceful communities, and countless species have been consumed in this pursuit.

In the present world, amidst pandemics and global crises, we still sense the looming threat of a third world war. The title ICU reflects both the struggle for breath among ordinary people and the imaginary confrontation with global powers. This film portrays the persistent human and state obsession with domination, and the fragile survival of ordinary people caught in the machinery of political power. Through this lens, I explore the enduring tension between global authority and individual experience.
